The 22nd Annual San Diego International Conference
on Child and Family Maltreatment - 2008

NOTE: Following are 3 rough design concepts – they are not polished and utilize low resoltuion versions of stock photographs we researched.
The goal is to work through the initial design concept stage quickly and effeciently. Once we have approval of a basic design concept, we can proceed to procure the high resolution stock photos, create and fine tune the final design. A project timeline schedule can be veiwed here.

concept #1

FINAL DESIGN - The final PMA Benjamin Franklin Awards 2008, Los Angeles Poster Design.

This is the final version with the high resolution photographic images and Sun Ben setting on the ocean horizon between the palm trees.

The design roughs that follow below document the creative design process that led up to this final design.

DESIGN #1 - A collage of readers of different types … along with Ben … featuring a graphic stylistic treatment.

The black and white images are tri-tone posterized and textured. The brightly colored backgrounds have hand painted textures. A pool and the ocean represent west coast activities.

DESIGN #2 - Colorful blocks connect and stack up to form the event title. We introduce the concept of adding the event location, Los Angeles, in addition to the year of the event.

Classic west coast images form the background – a pristine wave, palm trees silhouetted against a sunset, and a ghosted graffiti painted detail suggestive of human forms.

We still need to add Ben to this rough, and some of the images are only low resolution.

DESIGN #3a - Featuring 3 distinctively Southern California eye catching photographic images: A surfer on a beautiful blue wave; A golden sunset and a classic woody with surfboard on top.

"Sun" Ben is setting on the horizon, peaking out from behind the event's year and place.

This comp is designed using low resolution images which will need to be replaced with the high resolution originals.

DESIGN #3b - Variation of design #3a.

Here we added the anniversary logo (Note: we will need to replace it with the proper "25" Years type).

The ocean horizon line has been lowered and a little more of the palm fronds exposed.

Ben is stenciled on the woody's fender in a sunset colored blend.
